The Re.Frame Event Artwork
This custom toile de jouy illustration celebrates the layered narratives of West Vancouver: past, present, and reimagined. Rendered in TEDx's signature red, the artwork weaves together iconic landmarks: the lighthouse standing sentinel over coastal waters, the suspension bridge connecting communities, and the natural beauty of mountains and shorelines that define our landscape.
Framed by traditional Indigenous patterns, the piece acknowledges the unceded territories on which we gather and the enduring presence of the Squamish Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation peoples. These borders remind us that every landscape holds multiple stories, inviting us to look beyond familiar perspectives.
The toile de jouy style itself, a historic art form depicting pastoral scenes, becomes a vehicle for re.framing. By placing local landmarks within this classical technique, we challenge conventional ways of seeing our region.
The result is both timeless and contemporary, familiar yet fresh, embodying our theme of Re.Frame: examining what we think we know from new angles, honouring the layers of history beneath the surface, and reimagining the connections between land, people, and ideas.
Created by our in-house design team, this artwork invites you to pause and consider that it is in how we reframe our life, our opportunities and our challenges that we discover new possibilities.
